Simonida Savić (NL) works as a multidisciplinary graphic designer, where she
translates her research into visual storytelling.
By having a variety of
interests, including the development of psychedelics and mushrooms, as well as other
cultural curiosities, she uses her personal interest as an inspiration for her
individual projects.
As she's located in The Hague - during her studies at
KABK (2019-2023), she noticed that she finds great interest and curiosity by
collaborating with peers and commissioners that are not necessarily engaged
in the graphic design practice itself.
visual research project & printing methods
A research project of which the interest/fascination for fungi, mycelium and mushrooms manifested. By trying to find a balance of theoretical research and visual translation - the fungi project ended up to be fun and exciting, which would allow for experiments without hesitation. The photos are taken with a macro-lese in nearby forests of The Hague. Two photos have been selected to be printed as cyanotypes, also multicolored risographs use the same imagery. A3 cyanotypes, A3 risographs, Biotop paper 100-120gr, full color and multi colored prints (sketches and collages)

Good Soup exhibition at Grad Show KABK
Final project and graduation work for the “Good Soup” graphic design
exhibition that was part of the Graduation Show 2023 at the
Royal
Academy of Art The Hague. Taking inspiration from the thesis, by selecting a small
sub-chapter, the curiosity would grow stronger and eventually it was used as the main
theme for
my graduation work. A few slides of the initial concept pitch show reasons of motivation
and
research questions. How could this project be relevant?

exhibition of mixed media 'fungi'
By trying to find a balance of theoretical research and visual translation - the fungi project ended up to be fun and exciting, which would allow me to experiment without hesitation. The final result became an installation of which different mediums came together in one space. Later on, she revisited this theme for her thesis and graduation proposal at the KABK Graduation Show (2023).
Log error Target
Log error target is a web browser game of which is based on the probabilities that are
generated
through the AI calculator from the Google Maps app. Through tracking and collecting our
data
from actual routes we take for navigation, even when these apps are not actively open
and
used,
the AI simulator of the Semantic Location History of Google generates and makes
calculations
on
all possible outcomes for each “device tag” (smartphone or other smart devices that have
GPS
tracking chips in their hardware).
Focusing on these ‘probabilities’ and
assumptions
that
are
made for you (by these tracking apps,) Log error Target is a representation of this
generated
system where ‘us’ the users are (thinking) we’re in full control of our destinations,
but
whilst
moving places with our smart devices in our pockets, decisions have been made for us by
the
use
of percentages and variables.
Irma Boom Office | Internship 05.09.22 - 25.11.23
During my graduating year I worked a short 3 months at Irma Boom Office, alongside Irma Boom, Frederik Pesch and Anna Moschioni. Mainly assisting the team for various assignments. Sometimes small tasks including editorial work for Rijksmuseum (Nacht van de Geschiedenis, Familiemaand, ABN-AMRO, Schiphol, PCF Impact Awards 2022, etc.) Next to having also the freedom to conceptually work on internal assignements for the Rijksmuseum: museum shop, gallary/exh. labels, advertisements and the styleguide. I got the opportunity to work on a couple of short animations, including FONDS21 trailer at IDFA, Svenstk Tenn 100th anniversary logo, the Vatican Library: Boom! exhibiton. Other external parties and assignments I worked/assisted on: artist book: M. Readecker, logo design for Claudy Jongstra 'LOADS', Schiphol advertisements.
During my internship I really felt part of the IBO team, exchanging knowledge, skills
and advice while working on projects together. Out of personal experience I can say that this was one of the nicest internships I ever had to privilege to be working and be part of a close team. Also one of the perks of being an intern at IBO is being able to preview exhibition build ups at Rijksmuseum, visiting and checking the print-run at a printing press in Brugge, drink home grown Verbena tea and having the freedom to be yourself, having the space to grow as a designer, not only professionally.
The Good of Doing Nothing: documentation
During an exploration of the act of doing nothing - the collective 'Design Inquiry Group'
gave
the opportunity to question and understand what ‘doing nothing’ means in today’s society
and how
we all interpreted ‘doing nothing’ differently - also aside from our profession and our
studies.
Each week we would discuss subtopics around the act of ‘Doing Nothing’: ecology,
breathing,
the
erotic, labour. With every topic and meetings every week, we would bring something to
class
and
discuss this with tutors and peers - collaborate on small video projects and ensure to
document
the experiences translated into a publication and a short video: The Good of Doing
Nothing.

collective redesign | publication
Together with Alessandro Lucarini and Ronaldo Figueiredo, this redesign of the
publication of
Stuart Halls’ Representation was a short but interesting and sweet process. By trying
first
analysing the text ourselves, we tried to find a balance of clear communication of the
text:
we
edited the use of images, defined more clearly the use of vocabulary, occasionally
additional
footnotes, and (re)structured the epistemology of the writer Stuart Hall to make this
more
accessible for a diverse public of readers.

colour archive research project: patterns
With guidance of Michel Hoogervorst, this colour archive resulted in a small-scale
publication,
which selected and organised textures, patterns and symbols from different cultures and
ethnicities from several continents. cover: risograph and perfect bound (textile),
